ICU – Ignition Control Unit 2017

  • The ICU is an electronic module that manages the ignition, safety switches, diagnostics, and various starting states of a Jetsurf motorized surfboard. ICU – Ignition Control Unit 2017

  • It controls the logic for powering up the system, the engine start sequence, diagnostics, detecting faults, and ensuring safe operation.

🔍 Key Functions & States

According to Jetsurf’s documentation, the ICU operates with several basic states and signals:

State What Happens / Purpose
POWER OFF System is off, no LED indicator lit. ICU is inactive.
POWER ON / ICU DIAGNOSTICS When the key is inserted, ICU powers up, runs diagnostics (battery, pump, etc.). LED shows red then orange.
IDLE (Initial State) After diagnostics, if the key is removed, ICU enters idle — often runs bilge pump, sucks water out. LED slowly flashes orange.
RIDE When key inserted again, engine (or relevant circuits) enabled, can ride. LED flashes green.
ENGINE CLEANING Special function to clean out water/fuel from engine/system. LED flashes fast in orange. Key needs to be left in “CLEANING/OFF” position.
FAULT If something wrong (sensor, wiring, etc.), ICU indicates fault via LED (flashing red). Error codes are signaled until key removed.

đź”— Compatibility & Part Information

  • Part number A000094 refers to the ICU 2017 version.

  • It is used in all 2017 Jetsurf models, and also in UltraSport 2018.

  • It is not for the 2016 or later models beyond those listed, unless explicitly stated.

🔧 How to Use / Starting Procedure

From Jetsurf’s user instructions:

  1. Activate ICU (Stage One)

    • Insert the engine shut‑off key in the switch on the handle for at least 4 seconds (but no more than 30).

    • Then remove the key.

    • This turns the ICU on, activates auxiliary systems (e.g. bilge pump). An LED may light up, and you may hear the bilge pump.

  2. Start the Engine (Stage Two)

    • Insert the key again.

    • There is a programmed ~3‑second delay by the ICU, giving time for the rider to get ready and securely hold the handle.

    • After that, the starter engages and starts the engine.

  3. Stopping / Safety

    • Pulling the key out of the shut‑off switch will turn off the running engine.

🔧 How to Replace the ICU

If you need to swap out the ICU, here’s the procedure:

  • Wait until engine is cooled down (at least ~30 min).

  • Make sure ignition is OFF (LED not lit/flashing).

  • Remove the fuel tank (disconnect tubes, unclamp Velcro straps).

  • Disconnect all connectors from the ICU: includes wiring to ignition, water pump, etc.—typically 6 connectors in total.

  • Take out mounting screws/Velcro holding the ICU in place.

  • Install the new ICU, reconnect all connectors, use proper thread locker adhesives (Jetsurf specifies Loctite 243 and 638 for certain bolts)......
